The rise of a champion is always followed up with a tragic fall. Week 3 gave us the fall of Columbus at the hands of South Dade. The silent assassin that is the Buccaneers, took down the top team in 8A and The Crib's #1 overall team going into the game. The Explorers were joined in failure by former #5 Carol City (Miami Central), #2 Miami Northwestern (IMG), and #7 U School (McArthur). The shakeup that was Week 3 puts STA back at the top of the rankings and pushes South Dade up 10 spots. As exhilarating as those losses were, Week 4 has a menu of juicy games to choose from. The Kings of Davie Bowl between #4 Western and #11 University School is a cross town showdown of two teams trying to dethrone the usual suspects in their respected classifications. #3 Chaminade faces the sputtering #11 Carol City Chiefs, a matchup of solid defense and elite RBs. Lastly, Pat Surtain and his Patriots go toe to toe with former 5A competitor Jacksonville Trinity Christian, who has dissapointed to start the season and looking to get a marquee win against Heritage.
Going 28-6 last week, I've tallied up a 74-17 record through the first 3 weeks, good enough for a .813 winning percentage.
Lets get into the games!
GAME OF THE WEEK
#12 University School @ #4 Western: These two Broward powers have gained notoriety for their elite head coaches and strong coaching staffs who have reloaded rather than rebuild after graduating almost entire teams. Western has dominated their first two cupcakes to the tune of 132-0, but face a different opponent Friday. U School welcomes back 2021 QB Nick Vattiato to the lineup after falling on their face against #15 McArthur last week. Western needs this win as its just 1 of 2 big time games for them this season. A pass rush led by 2020 UTM commit DT Larry Johnson and DBs (2020 UM commit Justin Hodges and 2021 James Williams) that can shut down the best of passing games gives U School nightmares of last Friday. Western gets the tough W.
Prediction: 31-21, Western
NOTABLE GAMES
#11 Carol City @ #3 Chaminade-Madonna: Carol City is in the midst of two game slide during their toughest stretch of football. Another loss could potentially make this a 5 game losing streak with Trinity Christian and STA coming up. Chaminade wants to prove this season that 3A football can play with anyone, already putting away 7A #15 McArthur, and set their sites on the Chiefs. 2021 UM commit RB Thad Franklin might be too much for CC and another stiff pass rush might be too much again for Freshman QB Kewone Jenkins.
Prediction: 28-17, Chaminade-Madonna
#14 Deerfield Beach @ Zachary (Louisiana): Another week, another road trip for the Bucks. After their tuneup game against lowly Ely, the Beach Boys play the defending 5A Louisiana State Champs (winning 3 of the 5). One of four huge matchups this year, Deerfield should matchup well against the Broncos three head monster (Memphis commit QB, D1 RB, and LSU commit WR) as they boast one of the deepest offensive units in the area. I don't see the Bucks starting the season 1-3, especially with 2020 Tulane commit QB Michael Pratt under center now. I like DB in a shootout.
Prediction: 42-38, Deerfield Beach
